tomorrow’s lunch is leftover kimbap from tonight’s dinner… mmm, i LOVE me some kimbap! Â my boyfriend is great at rolling it, and it’s such a tasty and healthy treat, especially on warmer days/nights. Â my kimbap is vegetarian, with egg strips, takuwan, sesame spinach, and spicy tofu. Â the kimbap slices are separated from the rest of my food by a zig-zag-cut carrot strip baran, an idea from one of lia’s awesome bentos.
i’ve also got some steamed broccoli, purple potato flowers, a big fat strawberry, some grape tomatoes, two vegetarian chicken nuggets, and a few pea pods. Â hovering over the broccoli, about to collect pollen from the potato flowers, is a cute bumble bee. Â i’ve seen a bunch of cute bees lately, from akinoichigo’s to lucky sundae’s to mombento’s, and this is my take on the theme: Â a turmeric-dyed quail egg with nori strips and facial features, and white soy paper wings.
tomorrow’s friday — i’m hoping for an apartment-hunt-free weekend for myself (still waiting to dot the last Is and cross the last Ts on the apartment i found), and a fun and sunny weekend for all my bento pals!

What a buzzingly cute lil’ guy! He looks great against the dark brocco and purple flowers. Me too I love kimbap, and still really want to try. There are just so many fillings, it’s like an awesome meal in a fat roll! Bet you’ve never looked forward to a weekend like this in awhile, right? Enjoy your Friday and we look forward to hearing great news about the apt soon!
thanks sheri – and yes, kimbap is the best! a totally portable, wholesome meal. i am SO looking forward to this weekend, first one with any relaxation time in a while… thanks for your support, can’t wait to share my news
It so BEE-utiful!
Love the sweet bee and those gorgeous purple potato flowers that make him so happy!
thanks susan! haha, love the pun
) hope you and your family have a fab weekend!
“Kim bee-bap” Sounds like a new dance! And that’s exactly what this cute bee is doing…a dance around the “happy little flowers”
Wonderful bento… my day is now complete.
thanks hapa — haha, bee-bop is totally my bento dance. hope your hubby is feeling better and that you guys have a healthy and fun weekend!
Cutie little bee inside this pretty bento! You never fail to arrange your bento so nicely and colorful. Hope you have a great weekend and will get your apartment soon
thanks lia, and thanks for the carrot baran inspiration! i learn so many things from looking at your beautiful bentos!
Your bee is so cute! It must have taken forever to get the nori right though. Either way it looks really great against all the purples and greens.
thanks christie! the nori was relatively easy — hard boiled eggs have a slightly damp texture, so the nori stuck right on there — it was actually harder *cutting* the strips evenly because i was using a slightly stale and crackly piece of nori, haha!
nice bumble bee!
thanks sushi sushi!

Adorable bee and such nicely cut purple potato flowers! Another superb spring bento! Love it!
thanks kidsdreamwork! these flowers are cut with a cutter i ordered online (i think at http://www.sugarcraft.com/) — it was a great purchase, because it makes these delicate and intricate-looking flowers SO easy!
Little bee is so cute!!
merci pour votre commentaire july! j’espère que vous avez eu un bon week-end!
Love this – the bee is just adorable, and the purple flowers on broccoli is such a nice contrast! Great job!
thanks lexi! i am loving the purple potatoes i found in my market — when i get these, i steam a whole bunch of slices in advance and cut things out from them for the rest of the week. bonus: the refrigeration seems to make the purple color deeper!
Cute bee, gorgeous purple flowers, delicious looking lunch … need I say more?
thank you very much ingrid! it was a yummy combo.
