radish “cherries” bento

19 07 2010

just a quick entry today by way of explanation for my long absences and spotty posting this summer… still figuring out my schedule, and eating lunch at home most days, so no need to pack a box.  today, though, i’m helping out a friend’s art gallery, so i am bringing a little something: brown and white basmati rice layered over matar paneer (indian peas and cheese), with steamed broccoli, carrot leaves, takuwan flowers, CSA blueberries in a paper food cup, two vegetarian chicken strips, and the cutest tiny tomato from my friends’ garden.  two radish “cherries” (cilantro and mint “stem”) top off my rice.

hope you all are having a wonderful summer, full of as many possibilities and projects as mine so far!

Its lovely and we missed you! Good to hear that you are just busy, and not trapped under a refrigerator and unable to post bento blogs.😉 is that newspaper as a baran, or baran that just looks like newspaper? I like it!

thanks sonoma bento, haha, no disaster here, phew! the baran is a wax paper that comes with printed designs – i have newspaper and strawberries. i got it from the online japanese superstore, rakuten.

Always a DELIGHT to see a new gamene bento! Sweet and witty “cherry”…and I’m amazed cos I was thinking about a similar design using bright red mini pipaw peppers just last night (inspired by your recent pepper-mock strawberry bento)! Very cool baran–one of those wonderful, stylish details that make your bentos so fun to explore…

Glad your summer is unfolding with new and vital paths and possibilities, megan!

thanks mils, that’s so sweet! i’ve missed seeing what you and all my other pals have been up to, too! not sure why the radishes seem so red — they are very fresh, but i think it’s also the lighting in my apartment, maybe?
