this is my entry for mademoiselle.m’s “passion bento” contest. Â there are still 2 days to enter; why not join the international fun and put together a bento reflecting the things (or people, places, etc.) about which you are passionate?
this bento reflects my passions of art (including the art of bento-making itself!) and nature.
the above composition is made from a black-and-brown rice blend, purple potato (with white cheese, yellow cheese, and sesame seeds), basil leaves (from the plant on my windowsill), shredded takuwan, baby pear tomatoes, a kiwi berry, two raspberries, steamed broccolini (i used only the stems, which are tender and less woody than regular broccoli, and very tasty), vegetarian meatballs, and sweet potato. Â the forbidden rice is layered on top of my favorite spicy stewed korean tofu.
i originally saw the three-petaled violet idea at akinoichigo’s blog, and decided to put my own spin on it. Â this is another thing i’m passionate about — i feel so grateful to be part of this supportive community where everyone shares ideas and inspiration, and where this type of adaptation is encouraged!
I love the composition, color, idea, and creativity of the violets! This is a wonderful work of art. Stunning, and beautiful!
thanks so much sheri!
Ohh.. This is too beautiful!! I wouldnt want to mess this arrangement. You have just inspired me to make beautiful bento when my kids grow up ( and don’t want cute bento anymore!). Haha… =)
thank you karen, that is a huge compliment! i like to switch it up between “cute” and “pretty”!
Yah…I am with Karen…sooooo beautiful!!! Love all the colours, nice!! The butterflies are superb. Wish you good luck for the contest. 🙂

thanks anne marie! i can’t wait to eat this one, some of my favorite go-to bento staples (i’m a nut for this stewed tofu).

merci pauline!!
WOW, this is so stunning! when I saw the name of this new bento I became very impatient for the image to load! love this “passion bento event”–a really inspired idea. this bento showcases your style to a radiant nth degree! The little violets are just too lovely, and the chorus of bright butterflies and fruits is gloriously gamene. Congrats!!
such a sweet comment jenn, thank you so much — i am flattered to hear that you think i have an identifiable style, and if this bento achieved even half of the celebratory feeling about nature that your bentos evoke, then i’ve succeeded!
Wow, absolutely gorgeous. That is a work of art!
thank you kindly, steph!! :o)
That looks beautiful – I adore the coloured rice and cute flower details!
thanks lexi! i hope you can find black rice at your market – it was just as easy as normal rice, but such a cool color!
Gorgeous arrangement! The forbidden rice looks amazing, what a color contrast!
thanks susan! i just finally found the black rice recently at my H-mart, i was so jazzed to try it out, i always think it looks so bold and chic in others’ bentos!
*speechless*
I love your bentos all the time, but I love it best when it’s up for a competition….how amazing is that!? The amazing butterflies, the surreal violets…and the contrast with the yummy forbidden rice.
*applause*applause*applause*
thanks mils, you’re so sweet! i would take a bow, but i’m blushing too hard 😉
Omigod! I’m speechless… You always bring the best for a bento contest, Megan. This bento is just perfect, hope the best luckiness for you with the contest 😀
thanks as always ta! you are so supportive, i appreciate your good wishes :o)
I don’t often have time to actually comment on blog posts, (wish I had more time though!) but this bento keeps calling to me. It is so incredibly elegant and sophisticated, not only in color and composition, but flavor as well. This bento makes me want to slow down and enjoy life more, maybe do some gardening and ignore the press of everything stressful. Beautiful job!
thanks so much natakiya, i’m so flattered! wish i could share a bite with you ;-D
and taking a moment or two out of your day to enjoy yourself for a bit is exactly why i started making bento!
What a beutiful bento ^^ Good luck for the competition !
merci châtaigne, thanks for your comment!
