tomorrow’s lunch has two “club-style” (triple decker) sandwiches made from health nut bread, garlic-herb cream cheese, vegetarian ham, and cucumber. each sandwich is topped with a sort of scottie dog postage stamp.
in between the sandwiches is a steamed broccoli floret, a tamagoyaki slice, a purple potato dog bone, some pea pods, and one of the last of my israeli vine tomatoes with a yellow flower food pick.
if you haven’t done so yet, please check out the bento4japan charity auctions going on right now… i learned the hard way that i can’t bid on the cute shinzi katoh box that kir devries graciously donated and for which i’m hosting the auction (grrr)… but you can! plus, there’s plenty of other great stuff for me to bid on!
Oh, I have this slim stainless box too, I think! You have such a talent for this shape. I’ve got to get some ideas from you.
Love the scotties stamps effect too. Nice way to show them off.
That Shinzi katoh is superb!
thanks sheri! i love the slim shape, so fun to work with for kyaraben!
Your details are remarkable. I forget that sammies make excellent bento fillers. I’m taking notes!
thanks debra! yay, sammies are such an easy one, especially when you don’t have leftover rice from dinner and don’t want to wait for the cooker to finish, haha!
Agree with Sheri! Your slim box bento always looks so special! The sandwiches with the cute details, love it so much (^。^)
aww thanks so much lia. you are always so detailed and pretty in your bentos too!
Love the Scottie dog stamp idea! The bento looks very classy! 😉
thanks xelia! “classy” is a great adjective for a bento, hope mine can achieve that more often!
Pretty and fun! Love the purple potato bone detail!
thanks pauline! this was just the tiniest scrap of leftover potato from the slices i steamed for my flower onigiri bento last week — just goes to show it’s always worth it to save your food scraps 🙂
I too love that stainless steel box. The scottie dog is too cute. My daughter likes sandwiches everyday, so this gives me ideas to put it into a bento. She already likes the good whole grain breads. I’m getting up earlier tomorrow! 😀
oh yay lyndsey, hope this is an idea that works out for your girl. whole grain breads are the best, and a nice change from rice-based bentos once in a while!
Oh I love this! And I’m in love with the slim box shape. Plus this bento is so so cute and yummy. I’m taking notes too cuz summer is on its way which means.. my laziness in not having to make lunches will be over. lol!
thanks chantale! sandwiches are so easy to stuff in there, just keep ’em healthy is what i say. and the postage stamp design could be SO simplified – just a square of cheese with one nori punch, maybe. can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Your bento is amazing! I’ve seen bento photos before, but I don’t think I ever made the connection that it’s actually *eaten*…..how could you eat something so cute?
thanks sweet t.! i dunno, i have no problem eating it… i guess it helps that i take a picture that i can save. but it’s lunch, it’s for eating — and believe me i get HUNGRY, haha!
the visual excitement and charm of your bentos is awesome–seeing each new presentation is a jolt of joy! this design is so unique and I love the sammie fillings almost as much as the adorable, sharp scotties themselves. a dear friend is a huge fan of all things scottie and I cannot wait to share this with her!
your comments are always too kind jenn! i am happy, though, to bring anyone joy, any way i can. and please tell your friend hi for me!
Love your bento and the way you photograph them. Works of art!
thanks shawna! your blog is awesome too 🙂
